Artist Statement....

As a teacher of the fine arts in Westchester for nearly thirty years, my credo has been:
"Create for yourself only, from your heart."

Picture 021.jpg (21312 bytes) For several decades my work has followed a path that involved the abstract and the figurative realms. A reverence for a multitude of materials has encouraged my continued exploration of mixed media. I could not be relegated to only one material.

The figure, although important to me, is a means to an end, simply another tool with which to tell a story. The figure's accuracy and anatomy are secondary; its emotional message and dynamic spirit are primary. Abstraction provides the place in which to explore the beautiful influences of nature. I feel the spiral is the source of nature's most exciting forms. It finds its way into many of my sculpture. I believe I could never permanently settle into one style.

The images I create, sometimes intentionally rough, try to illustrate the effects of faith and desperation on the human spirt. For me, the emotional enthusiasm that inspired each piece burns perpetually. This path will consume me for years to come and I look forward to the journey immensely.
